Book and Bookends

delpire & co is a space dedicated to photography, books, and their related peripherals. Founded in the 1960s in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris by Robert Delpire, 13 rue de l’Abbaye has, since its inception, been a place that celebrates books and fosters collaboration with artists.
For the past three years, Théophile Calot, director of the bookstore, has invited artists and designers each year to reinterpret a singular object essential to our shelves: the bookend. Each of these pieces is unique or produced in very small artisanal series using a variety of materials — ceramics, metal, stone or repurposed materials. They mainly function in pairs but can also stand alone as sculptures.
This design project comes to MBAL with works by Elvire Bonduelle, Dieudonné Cartier, Atelier Jonathan Cohen, Cléo Charuet, Nathalie Dewez, Atelier Laisser Passer, Louis Lefebvre, Jeanne Tresvaux Du Fraval, and Laure Gremion, on the occasion of the exhibition Books and Bookends.

delpire & co ist ein Ort, der sich der Fotografie, Büchern und allem was damit zu tun hat widmet.
In den 60er Jahren in Paris im Herzen von Saint-Germain-des-Près von Robert Delpire gegründet, ist die Rue de l’Abbaye 13 seither ein Ort, an dem Bücher und die Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern im Mittelpunkt stehen.
Seit drei Jahren lädt Théophile Calot, der Leiter der Buchhandlung, jedes Jahr Künstler und Designer ein, sich eines besonderen Objekts anzunehmen, das in unseren Regalen nicht fehlen darf: der Buchstütze. Jedes dieser Stücke ist ein Unikat oder wird in sehr kleiner Auflage auf handwerkliche Weise aus ganz unterschiedlichen Materialien hergestellt: Keramik, Metall, Stein oder wiederverwendeten Materialien. Sie funktionieren hauptsächlich paarweise, können aber auch eigenständig wie Skulpturen bestehen.
Dieses Designprojekt wird im MBAL mit Werken von Elvire Bonduelle, Dieudonné Cartier, Atelier Jonathan Cohen, Cléo Charuet, Nathalie Dewez, Atelier Laisser Passer, Louis Lefebvre, Jeanne Tresvaux Du Fraval und Laure Gremion anlässlich der Ausstellung Books and Bookends gezeigt.

delpire & co è uno spazio dedicato alla fotografia, ai libri e ai loro accessori. Creato negli anni ’60 nel cuore di Saint-Germain-des-Près a Parigi da Robert Delpire, il 13, rue de l’Abbaye è sin dalla sua fondazione un luogo in cui la valorizzazione dei libri e la collaborazione con gli artisti sono all’ordine del giorno.
Da tre anni, Théophile Calot, direttore della libreria, invita ogni anno artisti e designer a cimentarsi con un oggetto singolare, indispensabile per le nostre librerie : il fermalibri. Ciascuno di questi pezzi è unico o prodotto in serie molto limitata in modo artigianale con materiali molto diversi : ceramica, metallo, pietra o materiali di recupero. Funzionano principalmente in coppia, ma possono anche vivere in modo autonomo come sculture.
Questo progetto di design viene esportato al MBAL con i pezzi di Elvire Bonduelle, Dieudonné Cartier, Atelier Jonathan Cohen, Cléo Charuet, Nathalie Dewez, Atelier Laisser Passer, Louis Lefebvre, Jeanne Tresvaux Du Fraval e Laure Gremion, in occasione della mostra Books and Bookends.
